I loved the first season of Friday Night Lights, so much so that I would say that it was better than the first season of The Wire*, that being said, this current season has been one of those most frustrating things to watch on TV ever.
It’s frustrating to see one terribly overdramatic and unbelievable plot point resolved (the Landry situation) and then see two completely new absurd ones start to unfold (Seracen/maid and Julie/John from Cincinnati). Whereas the strength of the show was once the subtlety of the characters, particularly in the context of each other, making the stories really compelling and or relatable, now it’s just kind of like they’re trying to figure out what the worst stories they can make are and then figuring out how telegraph them so much so that they make you wish that they don’t unfold that the way they seem like they’re going to (seriously, this maid story is really kiling me).
In better TV news, how great is 30 Rock this year? Dot Com always steals the scene!
