Damn it!
My tumbularity is 6. I kinda hate this feature now that it is here. One big old popularity contest.Hey let’s have an experiment where everybody reblogs this and we see how high we can take poor Stucky. I take back what I said, you’re so much cooler than a 6! Let’s do this, people!

It’ll also be interesting to see if this Tumblr feature sticks. Tumbularity seems like it could alienate a lot of the “non-Power Users” of Tumblr (a larger group than the popular folk), which means there will be a lot more people unhappy with it than happy with it.
But conversely, they’ve probably put a lot of time into developing it, which means scrapping the featureset would feel like a waste, especially considering they seem to plan on rolling out another part of it next week(?). And I’m sure there’s some sort of “Well-people-didn’t-like-newsfeed-at-first-either” mentality that will go into the decision making process as well.
The thing is, there was probably a way to display this information* so that, while it’s a popularity contest, it wasn’t so explicitly articulated as such (I mean, tumbularity?).
